"A story is made up of words and characters. Are the words well chosen and do the characters live? All the rest is literary gossip."

My six decade love affair with the English language compels me to offer a list of authors whose work meets my critical standards. The single criterion operant is the quality of the prose as composed by the writers. I have made no discrimination whatsoever as to subject matter, theme, or plot.

Therefore be warned!

A great many of the works here listed may involve themes or subjects repugnant to some readers. I can only advise that if a particular story cannot be stomached, go on to the next; you will find at least a few to be to your taste.

more serendip...channel surfing(TV)fell into a 'trailer'
for the new/new Toon...so, i guess i'll be in front of the set
on Sat. 9-29 at 11 a.m.... we'll see(as the blind man said)

Have I made mention of the latest posting by Calliope-child ?
"The More Things Change" is most decidedly worth your reading time.
It's one of those turtles-turn-human stories...which I wouldn't
recommend ordinarily...(projection, again, which I abhor)
but her raison d'etre, rationale, the 'why', the "huh?" was so
very carefully and logically constructed that I was entranced
in spite of my self.. suspension of disbelief was total!
And, of course, her prose is almost faultless...(a few missteps
attributable merely to typos) truly a joy to read!

Also, vacanthouses just posted (9-18)a beautifully logical
tidbit...based on her knowledge of the subject matter...(she claims to be
a biologist) It's one of those Donatello/April things...but with a
twist....and if you can recall the shape of DNA, you just might
understand the subdued chortle with which i typed that phrase!
