a limited variety of hand weapons-
the edge, the projectile and the bludgeon--

i can't remember if it was Anglo-Saxon,
Celtic or Norman French--
but there was a weapon called a
"Sword-breaker" (when I first saw
the 'sai' -- that's what i thought they were)
the present wielder uses them
more as daggers--so, like- in THE MOVIE
they are (finally) used as they were meant to be.
also, if you've ever read any of the Robin Hood
stories, you may recall Robin's encounter
with Little John on that narrow bridge-
wherein neither will give way to the other--
they dispute the right of way with staffs--
a weapon called "single-stick"
(or "quarter-staff")
need I say more?
