Kappa Tracks

"A story is made up of words and characters. Are the words well chosen and do the characters live? All the rest is literary gossip."

My six decade love affair with the English language compels me to offer a list of authors whose work meets my critical standards. The single criterion operant is the quality of the prose as composed by the writers. I have made no discrimination whatsoever as to subject matter, theme, or plot.

Therefore be warned!

A great many of the works here listed may involve themes or subjects repugnant to some readers. I can only advise that if a particular story cannot be stomached, go on to the next; you will find at least a few to be to your taste.

a Rant... & etc.

I think it was Ambrose Bierce who said something about Orthography...
.. being the science of spelling by eye and not by ear...
or maybe it's no longer considered to be important(relevant?)
to spell words as they appear in a dictionary--no, just spell them
the way they sound when you hear them on the radio or television...
..so here's a newly posted story wherein Donatello is pouring
some sort of fluid from a very small glass container..
Said container is referred to as a "vile"...... Arrrgh!
Yes, the word is pronounced as it is spelled in the story...
But! a dictionary will inform you that the term for this
particular object is spelled...V I A L !!!
Am I nit-picking?? or am I just being an old fuddy-duddy
& correctly spelling the words you use in your writing
is not really important any longer--just as long as you
tell the story???? Well, maybe not...

"Telling the story..." all that hard work* to structure
English prose sentences into a cohesive narrative
that entertains and enlightens those who read it.

So, maybe a metaphor is in order..
You are constructing an edifice--- why use shoddy materials???

Dag-nab-it! get a good dictionary & even if you think you know
how the word is spelled--suffer a little self-doubt and look it up!

I guess it's sorta a personal thing... nothing turns me off
a fanfiction quicker than "ear-spelling".... too many of those--
& the ol' Kappa ain'ta gonna track ya!

It feels like the creator of the work doesn't really care
about his/her creation--can't take the time or make the effort
to do it right!

*writing is the hardest work I know--
(also the most satisfying!)

n.b Friday the 2nd of March...
which means we are at T minus 21 days(three weeks)
