"A story is made up of words and characters. Are the words well chosen and do the characters live? All the rest is literary gossip."

My six decade love affair with the English language compels me to offer a list of authors whose work meets my critical standards. The single criterion operant is the quality of the prose as composed by the writers. I have made no discrimination whatsoever as to subject matter, theme, or plot.

Therefore be warned!

A great many of the works here listed may involve themes or subjects repugnant to some readers. I can only advise that if a particular story cannot be stomached, go on to the next; you will find at least a few to be to your taste.

observations...

I have been lurking around in the SS place..
trying to see if anyone else noticed and commented on--
in re: the first trailer for THE MOVIE--
opening views of film-as 'camera' draws back-
passes over display of the 'call letters' of
a TV channel or radio station--
we see (backwards) the letters: KMRG

could one suppose that the "M R G" is
the film makers in-joke and that
they are hinting at: MIRAGE ??!

Wandering around Youtube recently,
I encountered a Japanese gentleman giving
a very detailed demonstration of the proper
use of that triple tined weapon which is
derived from an agricultural
hand tool...

One of the first bits of information
that he imparted was the fact that
the name of this particular object
has only one spelling for both the
singular and the plural...

So, the next time someone on the
TMNT fan fiction site refers to a
"pair of sais"---I may emit a
very loud growl.
