"A story is made up of words and characters. Are the words well chosen and do the characters live? All the rest is literary gossip."

My six decade love affair with the English language compels me to offer a list of authors whose work meets my critical standards. The single criterion operant is the quality of the prose as composed by the writers. I have made no discrimination whatsoever as to subject matter, theme, or plot.

Therefore be warned!

A great many of the works here listed may involve themes or subjects repugnant to some readers. I can only advise that if a particular story cannot be stomached, go on to the next; you will find at least a few to be to your taste.

my 'take' on THE FIGHT

been at odds with just abt. everybody--
most of them are Leo-loyals who are adamant that
Leo 'threw' that duel(deliberately lost)in order to
bring Raph to his senses--
to make him understand that his
vigilante activities were detrimental
to the welbeing and safety of his family..
********
mebbe so..
(Mencken:You may be right..)
**************
however..
don't really want to drag in too many
biblical(anathema!)references -
but I thought I saw a near fratricide here..
that left hand clenching a weapon & raised
in what was surely a killing strike..
the sequence of Raph's expressions-
until the moment he steps back, turns and
runs away--I saw him running--from himself!!
he'd almost killed his brother--
& the shock of that realization--
is traumatic...no matter how much he
resents Leo's interference in his life--
he truly doesn't hate Leo..
Remember, Raph doesn't really answer
the question: Why do you hate me..)
******************
(The following has nothing to do with
the subject, but I wanna get it in here anyhow...
the most wonderful, hysterical, howl with laughter
sequence was the knock-down, drag-out, no holds barred,
kick ass, take no prisoners, last man(turtle)standing, brawl
between the Nightwatcher and the Jersey Devil...
It appeared that with this particular opponent,
Raphael almost meets his match!)
5-08 addendum:
Grandson, Conlan, taught me how to
rig CD player to play just one track over
and over...
Soundtrack(THE MOVIE)...
track 14 at top volume...
Hey! out here in the "Backwoods",
no neighbors nearby to complain!
(tho' noise just might scare off
the bears and cougars!)
